The Diego Garcia Modelers
Honorary IPMS/USA Chapter

The Diego Modelers' group was started by 'Father Al' Concha, LCDR USN. While  the model club is not an official chapel program, the US Navy 'Chapel in the  Palms' generously provides us a place to store our gear and to set up shop  every week, and also allows individual modelers to use the space as available,  throughout the week.

We've got a great bunch of about 25 modelers who have either started out in the  hobby, or are enjoying something they know very well. We've been featured on the Navy's in-house TV station, and have had a couple of visits from Captain Martin, the Navy CO.

Our group grew fast - right up to the point where we started to run out of kits! The make-and-take idea has worked very well with the Navy, Air Force, and  contractor folks here. We have had some Marines come through on R&R from the  forward area and there are also a few Brits on the island. Everybody is  welcome; TDY, permanent party, etc.   A few of our modelers have their own supplies, but as there is no source of  hobby materials within 2000nm, we rely heavily upon donated supplies.

Our  initial stock of kits is about depleted now, so we really need some of those:  The more varied the subject matter, the better! Small, simple kits of any scale  are great, and we do have a couple of advanced players who can do good work on  the bigger or more cosmic stuff. It's ALL good!

From the DG Modeler's Group we say "Thank you for the generosity each of you have shown to our little but active group here in the remote island of Diego Garcia".
