Supporting The Troops...

 .

The North Olympic Peninsula Modelers Society (NOPMS) Chapter has sent more than 80 model kits plus paints, tools and supplies to Iraq this month.

One of the club members, Rich and Joy Sullivan (R&J Enterprises) was contacted from Iraq by SSgt Tim Kosak of the 103rd Armored Regiment, Pennsylvania National Guard,  to order aftermarket armor materials.  Since our club was considering participating in the drive to send modeling supplies to the troops, The Sullivans ask Tim if his group would like to have some sent directly to his regiment.  Tim was very enthusiastic in his affirmative reply so the club went to work selling some kits at a Make N Take event for cash and raiding our stashes to get some of the “good stuff” together to ship to Tim and his friends.  Through the efforts of MiniMania, a local hobby shop, everything was collected and boxed up for shipment.  The local newspaper heard about the club efforts and prepared a front page color article (pictures attached).  Local people sent more than $200 to help with shipping and supplies…and it still keeps coming in.

Tim reports that the models are really appreciated as there is no friendly place to go to relax during off duty time.  He said they arrived in Iraq in M1A1s and are now converted to HUMVEES...Big Difference.  They have had some rough times and we hope that the stream of model kits and supplies will help them concentrate on these small trophies as a diversion.

We will continue these efforts as long as there is a need and means to do it.  These guys and gals deserve anything we can do for them…and more.
