Local Hobby Club Sends
Models to Baghdad
Pittsburgh, PA - - January 27, 2004 - -
The Three Rivers IPMS
(International Plastics Modeling Society) Model Club, a Pittsburgh, PA
based area modeling group joined in supporting the Hobbies for Heroes
program by sending over 100 various models to the soldiers located in
Iraq.
These avid modelers meet
once a month and build scale models of aircraft, cars, trucks, tanks,
military vehicles, spacecraft, as well as historical and mythical figures.
The group assists each other by demonstrating techniques, such as photo
etching, airbrushing, seam filling, or discussing concepts involved in
scale modeling hobbies. But it was these modeling members that took that
extra step to get involved with sending boxes and kits to our troops in
Iraq.
“We hope that these
models will help our troops keep their minds occupied and their thoughts
at rest.” said Bill Dedig, Training Manager for Draeger Safety Inc And
President of Three Rivers IPMS. Bill, an employee at Draeger Safety in
Pittsburgh, has donated his time to organizing the shipment for the
modeling club. “When I first approached the guys to donate some of their
models to our troops, they all really liked the idea. I had previously
broached the idea with the president of Draeger Safety, Wes Kenneweg, and
he immediately agreed to assist with the logistics and pay for the
shipment.” Bill said.
With this information in
hand, the members of the club reached into their kit supplies and modeling
tools and came up with a surprising 100 kits!” The items were collected at
a recent club meeting and delivered to Draeger Safety for shipping. The
shipment went out on Monday January 12, 2004 from Draeger Safety to 2nd
