IPMS/Tidewater

Newport News, VA

Officers and Members,

One last bit of business from the 2008 Nationals crossed our doorstep today which we are delighted to share. As you recall, during Nationals we collected kits for our military personnel overseas. The outpouring of support from those in attendance was great and we ended up with 3 large boxes full of kits and tools. Bill Kluge, who did all of the artwork and much for the decal sheet for Nationals, followed through on the donations and scrounged up smaller packaging, packed the kits and mailed 16 boxes (or as Bill puts it “a pick-up truck’s worth”) to the Balad Hobby club for IPMS. They arrived in time for the holidays and were well received. In return Balad club members sent several very kind notes of gratitude. Well, needless to say it warmed our hearts to assist in this way.

Well today we received the kindest thank you of all – an American Flag that flew over the base! It is in a handcrafted case, signed by thankful service personnel. As part of this emails are copies of the letter and pictures of the flag and autographed case. There are a lot of virtual high fives to share on this one, it was a Society effort – IPMS Tidewater was happy to help since many of us are former military with close ties to the community. I think that we will likely display the flag and letters in our show case at the Hampton Air and Space Center, the meeting place of IPMS Tidewater – but I am just a member in the ranks.

Bill has the original images in higher resolution and a good number of pictures taken by the Balad Hobby Club of its members enjoying the “care packages” if the Journal or the Website wishes to use them in a future article.

Best regards and our thanks for your support in this endeavor,

Charles Landrum
