IPMS/Twin City Aero Historians (Minneapolis/St. Paul)

 IPMS member #3345

Bob is a former U.S. Army pilot who flew UH-1C Huey gunships (Alpha Troop, 7th Squadron, 17th Air Cavalry) and UH-1H "slicks" (189th Assault Helicopter Company) in Vietnam during 1967-1968.

He joined the Dallas/Ft. Worth chapter of IPMS while stationed at Ft. Wolters, Texas, as a flight instructor after returning from Vietnam. He had the honor of being associated with Jim Sage (IPMS/USA #1) and Richard Marmo (IPMS/USA #2). Here he took an exponential leap in his modeling skills when he learned to fill seams, airbrush, and detail models, thanks to his IPMS association.

He has also been a member of the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter while living in the Philadelphia area.

Bob currently flies an Agusta A-109C helicopter, one of seven his hospital in Minneapolis operates at four full-time bases for Emergency Medical Services. It's a high-tech extension of military medevac and is a very rewarding job, he says.

Bob has been a modeler since age six and always knew he'd grow up to be a pilot. He has built 1/48 scale aircraft for a number of years and wrote several dozen articles for FineScale Modeler magazine during this period. He then branched out to ships where he could work with different types of wood, metal, and other materials, while at the same time learning machining operations on his lathe and other tools.
