In the IPMS/USA initiative to provide model kits, supplies and reference materials to our servicemen and women serving in combat zones in Iraq, we will provide contact and mailing information for these products as available. UPDATE October 2011 We are in the process of developing new points of contact and will update the list as we receive them. While we update HfH, we suggest you support another program based at VA hospitals Stateside - the IPMS Wounded Warriors Chapter. |

IPMS Wounded Warriors ChapterYou can join the Support the Troops effort by contacting Dick Montgomery, the chapter contact for the IPMS Wounded Warriors Chapter. The email address is (dmontgomery8327@sbcglobal.net). Read more to learn how…..IPMS/USA has long sponsored a program which provides a method of donation of hobby related materials to our Troops. While overseas contact points are difficult to maintain, IPMS/USA will continue to list those contact points here, on this web page, when possible. Even if there are no currently active overseas points of contact, it is still a very simple thing to put donations into the hands of our troops and our Wounded Warriors even if no overseas contacts are active. Several IPMS members have, since 2009-2010, been organizing and managing a domestic "point of contact", that being the Warrior Family Support Center and Center for the Intrepid located in San Antonio, Tx at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), Ft. Sam Houston, Tx. Troops are sent to BAMC for treatment and rehabilitation at the Center For the Intrepid. In some cases the troops remain onsite for up to 12 months. BAMC and the Center for the Intrepid are known as being among the elite medical facilities in the world for treatment and injuries received in a combat zone. Through the generosity of hundreds of IPMS members, IPMS chapters, and modelers, the Warriors stationed at BAMC have received models, tools, books, movies, and other hobby related items through the IPMS Wounded Warriors Chapter. Donations can be sent to the IPMS Wounded Warriors Chapter contact person, Dick Montgomery IPMS #14003. (dmontgomery8327@sbcglobal.net). Donations are received, cataloged and inventoried, and matched up with related items. (Publications-model kits / decals–kits / missing parts are identified and replaced, etc). and the paperwork for donation is completed. The items are transported to BAMC on a regular basis and as a result of the paperwork; the donors are recognized by the Ft. Sam Houston Base Commander and receive a certificate of Receipt and Appreciation. While this collection effort has been focused mostly in Texas and Louisiana it has begun to expand. Donation Stations were set up at both the IPMS national conventions in Phoenix and Omaha, and donations have been received via UPS, FedEx, and USPS from members all around the country. Read More About the Warrior Family Support Center:The WFSC on Fort Sam Houston is the only one of its kind, offering a safe environment for Military Families to reconnect during medical treatment and restart their lives with the full support of the military community. The WFSC provides coordinated services to patients, next-of-kin and extended Family members with a primary focus on OIF and OEF Warriors. It provides a friendly, comfortable environment in which to take a break, watch a movie on big-screen TV's, play video games, check email or use the Internet, select a book or magazine to read, make a phone call or just grab a cup of coffee. Wounded Warriors and their Family members visit the WFSC to maintain contact with other military members or extended Family members, to receive emotional support and answers to their questions, and to extend their rehabilitation away from the hospital. The rehabilitation involves learning to cope with war related disabilities as individuals, as couples and as Families. If you have any questions please contact Dick Montgomery via email at (dmontgomery8327@sbcglobal.net). |
