New Business

  • President's Report
    • The appointment of our new Chief Judge. Mike Polk has been appointed to replace Aris Papas as Chief Judge effective for the 2009 National Convention. Jack Kennedy has been asked to return to his former position of Head Figure Judge and has accepted.
  • First Vice President's Report
    • Make n Take Update – another 1,000 kits will cost about $1,800 or so. We are going through about 2,500 kits per year ($4000+/year). Bruce Drummond is transitioning into the Junior Activities position.
    • Steve Dottavio will receive a two-year extension of his membership in recognition of past service.
    • Reviewers Corps – too many late reviews. 88 reviewers with 30 or so that are providing most of the work. Unfortunately some reviewers have ‘disappeared' with their kits without giving a review. Efforts will be made to bring them back into the corps or take disciplinary action as a last resort.
  • Second Vice President's Report
    • Progress on the 2009 Convention:
      • Tour companies will not set prices due to volatility in fuel prices.
      • Registration is very slow due to tour issues and the economy in general
      • Laptop computers for the convention registration are being planned, the key choice is to buy or lease.
    • IPMS would like to start this handling all the finances for future Nationals at the soonest possible convention due to new IRS regulations.
    • Financial report from Va. Beach – we expect the society share to be about $9,000.
    • Bids for 2011: None received as yet. If none are received by February 1, 2009, the bidding process will be opened to the entire society not just the “East” section.
  • Treasurer's Report

    • Re-chartering is in progress with the usual percentages. Most clubs have completed the process with the exception of actually sending in their dues.
  • Foreign Liaison Report
    • Troop transitions have left us without a contact in theater. We need somebody to receive and distribute our “Hobbies for Heroes” shipments

    • With this issue of the journal there will be a 8.5 x 11 sheet inside the poly bag covering the front of the journal indicating “this is your last issue on your membership…. please use the card below to renew….” Hopefully this will eliminate those members that are telling me they did not know or never received notice
    • The email program we had indicated we were going to start sending to expiring members was put on hold when our web site was hacked, due to time limitations. Will look at this again with Webmaster.
    • Liability Insurance - application has been submitted; do not have a quote yet. Policy will renew on January 15, 2009.
    • D&O Insurance - application has been submitted; do not have a quote yet.
