Everyone affiliated with the IPMS National Convention scene is familiar with Derek Brown.  This latest Issue of AFV Magazine features Buffy's outstanding, award winning, 1/72 M1A1 Abrams on the cover in addition to a full coverage build between the pages.  Yup, Buffy's crazy... I thought I was seeing things with the dime next to the kit size comparison.  All the stops were pulled out along the build of this kit, which features a scratch built interior and engine/fighting compartment.  You also just have the love the side panels that open.  He makes it look so darn easy too!  This is a great article and certainly worth the price of the issue all by itself!  Well-done Derek!

Mark Neville brings us a fabulous build of a 1/35 Dragon Stug III B.  The kit features an early war German gray scheme with the addition of brass parts by Aber.  The presentation is set off by the meticulous weathering of the model that brings out the best in the kit.  Mark’s work is very skillfully done and even anyone should learn something here!  I must add that Mark's Figures were very nice and the most realistic that I've seen in some time.  Well done!

In another exciting article, featuring this time a KV-1 Model 1940, Adam Wilder shows us how to do it using after-market resin parts.  Thrilling step-by-step pictures walk you through the build and finishes with a very nice looking kit.  The lighter green used convinced me of the variety of shades one can use for Soviet armor.  This is an impressive article and Patriotic War fans will gobble this one up.

Luciano Rodriguez brings us a short review of the new wave of armor from Tamiya - this being a 1/48 Tiger 1 early production.  For those of you wishing to get into this up and coming scale, this is a good preview.  Nice job and awesome subject.

The Extreme close-up this time is on the T-26 tank, 1933 Russian version that features inside as well as outside shots.  Outstanding reference for future builds that has become a trademark of this must have magazine.

This months Issue also brings us part two of Ricardo Rodriguez's 1/35 British Desert Crusader build that is a Very nice kit in a desert setting with three Figures.  The whole build is presented here with outside detailing as well as intricate pictures of the scratch-built interior and fighting compartment.  What impresses me besides the build itself is a technique in diorama presentation that is often overlooked… the scene is on a smaller base with the vehicle overlapping the base.  I think this comes off very well and glad to see more persons doing something a little different.

Jorge Alvear shows what you can do to update and correct a Tamiya Panzer III Ausf L (without having the men in white come and get you).  The pictures and explanations are very helpful to future builds and answers several questions in one article that can save the modeler hours of research.  The photos were taken prior to paint to give you the utmost in visual examples.  This article alone put this issue over the top in reference must haves for the armor modeler.

The usual photo's of the latest kits, products and after-market complete this issue and what a whirlwind of goodies here.  Aircraft modelers take heart because AFV Modeler is introducing an aircraft modeling publication soon.  My appreciation goes to AFV Modeler, Wise Owl Publications, and John Noack for the review issue.  Cheers and time to get started on another kit!
