Modelling US Army Tank Destroyers of World War II

Another Big “HOOAH” goes out to Osprey publishing once again.  While judging at the American Eagles Tacoma Fall show, I happened upon the “new arrivals” shelf.  Of course this cried out “Buy me” and of course, I did.

Steven Zaloga is a name synonymous with both Osprey publishing and armor in general.  The cool thing is that he is an “old school” model builder as well.  Since I began buying these model building books, I have complained repeatedly that they are filled with lists of EXPENSIVE after market products that a lot of modeler’s can ill afford.  Don’t get me wrong, if you have that kind of money or are afraid of trying it yourself, then by all means, knock yourself out.  Mr. Zaloga’s models remind me of Sheperd Paine’s “How to” books.  There is a lot of white styrene and epoxy putty used as opposed to buying after market products.  I love gizmology building or “actual building” as opposed to purchasing $40.00 resin hop-up kits.

Tank Destroyers consists of 81 pages of color and black and white photographs.  The black and white shots are of actual vehicles and the colors are of the models.  Again, you get the usual before, during and after pictures to aid you if needed.  The book is broken down into nine chapters and one color plate.  You get an introduction, kits available (both 1/35 and 1/72{plastic and Resin}), winter tank destroyer (Academy 1/35 M36), tank destroyer (Extratech M10 Achilles 1/72 M10 3in GMC), tank destroyer (AFV 1/35 M18), M39 AUV (AFV M18 conversion), additional reading, museums of note, and the color plate.

This is another well received book to add to my collection of Osprey modeling tomes.  If you are a tank destroyer fan then I am sure you will be pleased with this book.
