This Squadron Book format is a real killer.  It's compact and very easy to use when your building that next award winning model.  In my case, it's a situation of getting the glue off your fingers.  Well slap me, these last couple of years have brought some top notch publications for armor modelers. Xtreme Modelling is one of those periodicals.  Published in Spain, this Issue brings us a build of the super AFV Club M-18 Hellcat done by Pat Johnson.  The OD Paint scheme comes off very well and the additional stowage is not over the head of any novice modeler.  It's a great job done on a fine kit.

Gary Kwan brings us a very nice diorama of a Berlin, May 2nd 1945.  It depicts the escape attempt of elements of the SS and centers on a nicely done Dragon Sdkfz 250/1 half track. The painting and overall presentation is explained very well and a complete joy to see.  Fine photo's enhance the diorama to it's full effect!

A very interesting  diorama is next featuring a priest and an alter boy outside of an Anzio Church with a Dragon 1/35 Elephant in the street.  Very well done paint scheme highlights this nice kit.  On a side note, there are a couple of photo's of this kit before it was painted and they superbly illustrate the use of Cavalier "Zimmerit."  It is easy to use and requires only patience and a new #11 blade.  The authors also explain their style of constructing the building.  This will be very informative to those modelers diving into the arena of diorama building. This is a very good article and worth getting.

Jose' Azorin produces a dynamic scene utilizing a Tamiya T-34/76 and a Warriors T34/85 turret with D-5T gun.  This is a very simple no brainier conversion meaning, if I can do it, turning the outstanding/older Tamiya kit into a distinctive early T-34/85 version with early gun and rounded fenders and hull joint. Jose' includes several photo's sans paint for the viewer to see the extra work/replacement parts involved.  Highlighting the diorama is a warmly greeted white wash job on the vehicle.  There's something very sinister looking about a T-34/85 in a white wash that just titillates ones skills.  There is some outstanding work done on the deck screens and fuel tanks that warrants attention. Great job!!!!

In April of 2004 there was a 1000+ kit show in Torrent, Spain.  Pictures from that event (50) are included in the coverage.  Looking at most of them bears witness to the fact that a modeler can learn many things by looking and often being silent.  In studying these photo's this is very true.  (This is also true of the recent pictures on the IPMS Website of our past National Convention in Phoenix).

Rounding out the dioramas for this issue is a Vietnam setting that features two figures... a big Buddha and plenty of jungle.  There is even a little how to section on the back page.  This one is using Model Air Paints by Vallejo.  Finely illustrated that even I understood it.

You can't miss with Xtreme Modelling and I do urge you to pick these up when you can.  You can learn plenty from them and constantly use them as a reference for any diorama/kit building.  Books such as this never loose their appeal since all of the techniques in the books can be used for any of your modeling projects.  Very Recommended and thank you John Noack and Xtreme Modelling for the Sample issue!
