Xtreme Modelling

Issue #7

Reviewed By Jack Bruno, #25313

You know, after getting this issue I was beginning to think that I was a dolt when it comes to modeling because some of the features are mind blowing in this issue.  My contemplation of therapy began right from the opening page which is an advertisement to convert the Tamiya Panzer IV Ausf H to an Ausf F1.  Drats!!!  Next came the hallucinations that were the stunning armored Soviet Draisine MBV-2 rail car that boasted three turrets on a scratch build car.  Outstanding work by Jose Sanchez takes you thru the construction process right up to painting!  Very cool scheme backed up by a picture of the real deal.  Anybody out there contemplating a Soviet armored railcar needs to see this article.

Next is a very nice double build of the Tasca Luchs and the ICM Luchs by two different authors, Pat Johnson (ICM) and Antonio Tello (TASCA).  Both modelers go all out to show you what can be done with these neat little kits.

My favorite in this issue is a small diorama of a Tamiya T-55A tank called "In the Rain."  It shows a tank C/O walking next to his tank in the rain. The painting and  realism of this diorama is simply stunning.

Jaume Ortiz presents a fine figure of an Afrika Korp soldier in a running pose from the Toro Models range of products.  Step by step painting is featured and told simply enough that even I can turn out a decent figure in a few days.  The eye catching presentation by Mr. Ortiz is exemplified by his use of uniform colors to create the diversity of North Africa.  Very well done!

A beautiful M3A3 Stuart (AFV Club) is the subject of a short diorama feature by Cesar Coca.  Two WOLF British figures accompany this fine effort of a couple of soldiers getting a wash next to their mount.  Nice foliage work here!

There is also a short feature on building the Dragon T-34/76 1940 version.  Part one is in this issue and it looks very good, especially the prep work that we all sometimes take for granted!

Again, Xtreme Modelling leaves me wanting more and more!  Shari.....call the shrink, I see models when I close my eyes!  Armor modelers should have this on the must buy list all the time.  Recommended!  Thanks to IPMS/USA and John Noack for the review sample!
