Issue 5 (Spring '04)

Military Modelling Magazine

Reviewed By Jack Bruno, #25313

This Magazine came as a surprise to me. Printed in Spain,  it is about the size of a Squadron Signal Book and features six outstanding armor related subjects and builds that include an in-depth diorama of a s.SS-Pz.Abt.501 Tiger II in the town of Stavelot, by Bernard Cher.  What impressed me about this format is that the authors list all tools, supplies, techniques and aftermarket sets used in the presentations.  There is nothing here that an average modeler can't acquire and use as a guideline to create their own masterpiece.

Besides the Tiger montage there is a nifty build of the Dragon K5 (E) "Leopold" Rail Gun by Bernard Lustig.  This is a very helpful article that includes the building, painting, and weathering that every modeler that owns this kit should have on hand.  An additional article is included on small scale modeling.  Let me tell you, small scale armor building is here to stay.  I was thoroughly fooled into what I thought was 1/35 and was quite taken a back when I discovered that I was looking at highly detailed 1/72.  I'm now a new man!!!

Other features include a report on German armor in Italy and a Grand Show in Lier, Belgium.  There is also a Kiwi Sherman diorama by Antonio Tello that is modeled after a picture of a real event.

All in all there is some very helpful, informative and exquisite work between the 68 pages.  A very nice surprise is included in the last few pages.  There is an update for the latest armor products by some old and new friends.  That was a very nice touch and already put to good use with an order from my favorite hobby shop. (Shhhhh, Shari still thinks I trade for this stuff.)   Extreme Modelling Issue 5 is very highly recommended and thanks to them and John Noack for the review sample.
