Ever since the new
Hasegawa 1/32 FW-190 D-9 came out, there have been expectations of new
decal sheets to dress up a very nice kit. Eagle Editions has delivered
with a beautiful series of decals.
Common to all sheets is
the beautiful instructions. Each folds out to a full color, two-sided
sheet which gives precise painting instructions for each machine as well
as some of the history. Each set of instructions also includes a guide for
application of the stencils and a full color, three-view paint scheme for
each aircraft. Notes on the painting guide include details such as uneven
or unparallel Reich defense bands and very exacting color call outs for
all parts. Where available, actual pictures of the aircraft were used. On
sheet #59, there is a very good (and helpful) explanation of the
differences of D-9 vs. D-11 vs. D-13 variants. I am sure that EagleParts
resin conversion parts will become available for the D-11 and D-13
variants. The research put into these sheets is superb.
Each decal sheet is
actually a set of 2 sheets each 5.5” x 8” and are complete down to the
markings on the landing gear and propeller. They are perfectly in register
and have a glossy appearance. Having used Eagle Editions decals in the
past with excellent success, I would expect these to apply well and
snuggle down with minimal effort using the Microscale system.
I was lucky enough at the
IPMS/USA Nationals in OKC to see several examples of planes using these
decals and two things struck me. First, Jerry Crandall (owner of Eagle
Editions) is a great model builder. Second, was how realistic the planes
look with good decals and research in to the paint schemes and details. I
recommend these sets to all the Luftwaffe fans out there. I also had the
good luck to see the new resin D-9 cockpit set from Eagle Editions (the
seat is a work of art!). These decals and accessories will dress your D-9
to the nines! |
