Well, this looks like a new decal line (new to me at least) from Meteor Productions. This sheet is for two B-29’s, Dauntless Dotty
and Lucky Lady. None other than Robert Morgan, the pilot of the B-17 F Memphis Belle, flew dauntless Dotty from the Marianas
Islands. Robert Morgan led the first single aircraft reconnaissance mission, and the first B-29 bombing mission on Tokyo on
November 24, 1944. The decals are beautiful, well laid out, and in
absolutely perfect registration. There is a white background for the area where the Lady pin-ups go, but I can’t see where they were
needed. The pin-ups are beautifully detailed. The artists didn’t just do art for one side and reverse it for the other. There is
a subtle difference to each of the ladies hair and (shall we say) wardrobe.
Application is pretty straightforward. I’m sure you have used good decals before, so all I can add to any
instructions is to take your time and study the profiles in the instruction sheet.
The decals went on without any problem and are compatible with the Micro-Scale
decaling system. The instructions specifically warn against using Solva-Set but I would avoid Champ systems as well.
I look forward to other decals from this company. If you need to know, PYN stands
for Pick Your Nose art. Meteor Productions provided this decal to the IPMS/USA REVIEWER CORP. Look for it at your favorite hobby
shop. For more on the life and times of the late Robert K. Morgan
I would suggest the book The Men Who Flew The Memphis Belle by Robert Morgan and Ron Powers. (ISBN 0-525-94610-1) |
