Decals are quite the enigma for many modelers.  Some people will buy a sheet with several options with the intention of using just one of them.  Others buy decals to use on an upcoming project that they may get to someday.  Others buy them because they like the markings.  The reasons go on.  The fact however, is that decals are getting more and more expensive for the consumer.  One must seriously consider the value of a sheet before purchasing these days.  I have a sheet to review that really shows about as much value for its content as you will find out on the market today.  Twobobs 72-029 Top Gun Vipers sheet is just that sheet in my eyes.

I do not normally build 1/72 aircraft.  I stick to the not so blind, but not yet Braille scale 1/48 stuff.  Now with that being said, I am still VERY impressed with what Twobobs have come up with on this sheet.  You get no less than seven 1/72 F-16 Aggressors to choose from!!  Every one of them sports a different and unique paint scheme.  You get six US Navy Aggressors and one quite cool Marine offering.  The sheet is actually two of the 1/48 offering shrunk down to one 1/72 offering.  So you really get more bang for the buck.

On the Navy side you get the following:

F-16B Bort 06 Brown/Tan/sand overall Pratt and Whitney powered

F-16A/N Bort 51 same scheme as the B model, also Pratt powered

F-16A/N Bort 61 grey/dark grey wraparound, Pratt powered

F-16A/N Bort 50 Dark Blue/Light Blue/Grey overall Pratt powered

F-16C Bort 1 Dark Blue/Dark Grey/Lt Grey overall GE Powered

F-16C Bort 41 Dark Brown/Sand/Tan overall GE Powered

The Marine jet:

F-16C Dark Green/Grey wraparound GE Powered

The really great thing about this sheet is that you can literally build all seven jets as there are enough markings for all of them on the sheet!!  Every marking on my sample sheet is in register and the colors are all very dense.  There is very little carrier film to speak of.  As a bonus you get several pictures on the full color instructions of the actual aircraft depicted.  You also get a nifty little list of kits and accessories out there that are available.  As usual Twobobs has hit a home run with this one.  They are really setting the bar for well researched subjects and great, user friendly artwork.

My thanks to Bob Sanchez at Twobobs for the review sample.  Be sure to catch him at the IPMS/USA Nationals here in Phoenix this summer.
