Late last year I was sent the SPECIALTY PRESS Book GENDA'S
BLADE to review for the IPMS/USA Website. Since that time I've been
captivated by the N1K2-J Shinden-Kai and the achievements of the 343
Kokutai while fighting the US Navy's Corsairs and Hellcats.
The Markings of both Part's 1 and 2 are taken from the
outstanding color plates illustrated in the book and perfectly presented
in both 1/48 AND 1/72 scale on BOTH sheets!!! The color and register
of the two sheets hit you like the first 12 chords of "Smoke on the
Water", from Deep Purple's Made in Japan album! Yeah, they're that good.
All the top Aces are included here with the likes of
Kanno, Matsumura (2 A/C), Ohara, Sugita and Oshibuchi. For good
measure, one of the examples is depicted in US markings as tested at
Wright-Patterson! A total of 8 aircraft are included on the two
sheets. I really like the idea of including both scales on each sheet,
although the modeler must pick up additional Hinomaru's or use the kit
decals to do more than one N1K2-J.
Register and color were EXCELLENT on both my examples
and made specifically for the newer 1/48 HASEGAWA "George." Of note
are the extra white numbers for additional opacity. Most impressive
is the color booklet included in each packet that includes additional
information on pilot/aircraft. Very Well Done!!!
Needless to say I can't urge you enough to include these
sheets for your N1K2-J build. Highly Recommended and THANK YOU
Yellowhammer Models, Meteor Productions, and John Noack for the review
samples. |
