The biggest problem with the Hasegawa Bf-109K-4 kit, besides the flat spine, is the cockpit.  Hasegawa provides the standard cockpit that is ok for a G-6/10/14 but not a K-4.  This resin and photo etch set from Eagle Editions addresses this shortcoming.

Molded in bubble free light gray plastic with a fret of brass photo etch, this set is so beautiful it is hard to describe.  Not your typical 109 cockpit set, this beautiful cockpit designed by Gregg Cooper is an essential upgrade for the Hasegawa kit. Containing four pages of instructions should give you some indication on the level of detail.  The set is based on actual parts from Jerry Crandall's personal collection.

There are parts contained in this set that are not included in other sets, such as the 30mm ammo can and the windscreen side panels.  An accurate plywood seat pan is included.

I'm in awe of how well the parts are cast especially with the undercuts.  My review copy had a small problem where the trim wheels fit, but it was easily fixed.  The tab where the trim wheel attaches is so accurately thin the part had bent over.  This was no big deal and easily fixed.  This small problem is even addressed in the instructions; again this shows the level of expertise in the design of the set.  The photo etch parts are very thin and look great.  Stencils for the seatbelts are included to make them out of foil or your choice of material.  The belts then need to be thread through the beautiful buckles.

If I had to find one thing about the set that I didn't like it would be the instruments.  The panel itself is beautiful but there is no detail in the gauges.  Some decals would have been nice.  Truthfully, after painting the panel and adding a drop of Future or Krystal Kleer to the instrument face you would not be able to see the detail.

In summary, this set is beautiful and the epitome of what can be accomplished in resin and photo etch.  My hat is off to Gregg Cooper and Eagle Editions.  Can we make one of these sets in 1/48th?

I highly recommend this set.

I would like to thank Eagle Editions for the review copy.  The decals can be ordered from their website at www.eagle-editions.com or by calling them at 1-800-255-1830.
