In the master race you would take two beautiful people and make beautiful babies.  Well here is proof that it doesn’t work.  Take two beautiful airplanes, the Bf-109 and the Spitfire, mate the parts of one to the other and you have a very ugly airplane.  Trying to demonstrate the superiority of German engine designs, Daimler-Benz conducted tests on a captured Spitfire Mk Vb with a DB605 engine.  This airplane is the subject of this conversion set.  The results of the tests proved that the engines were similar even if they used different methods to get the power.  Truth be told the cowling was actually based on the Bf-110 cowling, which may explain the ugly look to the graceful Spitfire.  Flown numerous times until destroyed in an American air raid, this airplane is definitely different.

Fusion’s conversion is based on the wonderful 1/48th Tamiya Spitfire kit.  You are provided with one page of instructions.  The instructions are well written and easily understandable.  Fusion provides a separate sheet containing four-view painting instructions and weathering suggestions.  Everything you need for the conversion is cast in bubble free light gray resin the set includes a new hollow cast nose with fine recessed panel lines, spinner, prop blades, exhausts, air intake, gun covers, and pitot tube.  A small decal sheet with all the markings is included.

If you are looking for something different this airplane is definitely it.  I highly recommend this conversion.

The parts can be purchased directly from Fusion at www.dp9.com/fusion.  Thanks to Fusion for the review copy.
