Modern U.S. Military Equipment Set

Reviewed By Mark Aldrich, #39295

Fast on the heels of their two new HUMMWV’s comes this super accessory set.  This is a really nice addition for the modern military vehicle modeler.

The kit comes with two duplicate sprues each containing 58 pieces of highly detailed tan styrene, one sheet of 20 MRE’s (Meals Ready to EAT) printing on very thin brown paper stock, and a decal sheet to be used on the ammunition containers.

The 116 pieces of plastic allow you to make:

8       sleeping mats

4       four large ruck sacks

4       four small ruck sacks

4       double ruck sacks (designed to be vehicle mounted)

4       compressed sleeping bags inside their carriers

4       butt packs (too big to be used on figures)

4       large 40mm ammunition cans

4       small 40mm ammunition cans

4       duffle bags

4       collapsed cots

2       folded tarps

2       wrapped tarps

2       five gallon water cans

2       five gallon fuel cans

2       binoculars

2       ammo cans and belts

(designed to be mounted to a M2 .50 cal)

2       framed CIPs (Combat Identification panel)

2       unframed CIPs

2       puppies (yes, little dogs

All these items are of the usual Tamiya quality.  They lend themselves easily to any modern day vehicle or diorama.

There are only three downsides to this nice set.  One, the butt packs are entirely too large to be mounted to a modern day miniatures rear.  Two, the MRE’s are printed on too flimsy paper and will need some reinforcement.  Finally, the kit is marked as modern equipment but the Army has switched to the new MOLIE system and therefore these item are more designed for a time period of say 1988 through 2002

This is a great little set for the modern armor or diorama builder and can be purchased from SQUADRON for $8.97.
