Having never seen an issue of AFV Modeler before, I jumped at the chance to review issue 38. Upon first look, this magazine is very impressive compared to other on the market. It is comprised of 64 pages printed in full color throughout, on heavy stock.

On this issue's front cover is a wonderful photo of Staf Snyer's Bergepanther, which is the focus of the main article of the magazine. On the inside cover is a nicely presented photo of Luciano Rodriguez's 1:48 Hetzer. Page 1 is made up of the table of contents and various required publication information. Here's a breakdown of the contents:
  • Pgs 2 - 11: "Topless T-34" - Patrick Winnepennickx's Turret-less Afgan T-34. A unique and intriguing subject not normally seen.

  • Pgs 12 - 21: "Past Panther" - Sam Dwyer's Destroyed Panther A, Normandy, 1944. An interesting article on a knocked out Panther with a fully detailed interior.

  • Pgs 22 - 32: "Stalin's Target" - Modeling a Knocked Out KV-1 m42 by Adam Wilder. A well done article on a disabled AFV in an urban setting.

  • Pgs 33 - 41: "Flak Bergepanther" - Modelled and Described by Staf Snyer. Part 1 of 2. An excellent showcase of a heavily scratch-built, super-detailed Bergepanther.

  • Pgs 42 - 49: "Xtreme Detail" - A detailed walk around of a Panzer II Ausf A-C

  • Pgs 50 - 57: "Keeping Track" - The new release section of the magazine containing articles of full kits, aftermarket resin, photo etch, decals, books and paint.

  • Pgs 58 - 64: "Hetzer" Luciano Rodrigez Builds Tamiya's 1:48 Scale Jagdpanther 38(t) Hetzer - This is mainly an out of the box build of Tamiya's medium scale WWII tank destroyer.

The inside back cover and back cover itself are advertisements for Blast Models, Tahk and Tristar.

Overall, a well done and informative issue. However, being a modern armor modeler, I would have liked to have seen another article or two dealing with modern AFV's but that may be in the next issue. Having said that, is it worth the cover price? Definitely.

Thanks to AFV modeller and IPMS/USA for the review sample.
