Here's something a little unusual. Madelman is the Hispanic equivalent of GI Joe, and was produced in about the same timeframe, so it will be familiar to some of you, but new to many others I am sure.

Madelman was in production from 1968 to 1983; made in Spain and later in Mexico, they were exported all over Europe, but are best known to Hispanic audiences. They were to 1:11 scale, so were about 6 inches tall. Like GI Joe, the Madelman range attracted a huge following with kids and a large range of figures and accessories was produced. Since the demise of the brand in 1983, they have become highly collectible, and this book will be valuable to anyone with an interest in this range.

Written by top collector, and famous musician Pedro Andrea, this book is a full-colour, illustrated guide to the Madelman range, and showcases the author's almost complete collection of Madelman figures and accessories. Each figure, costume and accessory is illustrated and described, and there are a number of set pieces that showcase different aspects of the range - the army figures, big game hunters, deep sea divers and pirates, for example.

Although this isn't strictly speaking a modelling book, it is relevant in that many of us collect the relics of our childhood - witness the booming business in GI Joe collectibles shown at Dragon Expo - and this will appeal to those with an interest in large scale articulated figures. My brother and I used to collect Action Man figures and gear when we were kids, and so this book did revive some memories as I was reading through it - many of the same themes were used by that iconic British range. If you have fond memories of GI Joe, then this book may well be of interest.
