This is number nine in a series of informational detail books released by Histoire & Collections of France. This soft cover, 82 page volume deals with the colorful French Hussars.

Overview: The book gives a very brief overview of the Hussar regiments from inception to the 1812 regulations. It then goes a bit further describing the regiments and equipage for the Hundred Days, and also the Restoration period.

There are sections specifically dealing with each regiment. Each has large number of nicely colored illustrations showing officers, troopers, and trumpeters in great detail, as well as every piece of accoutrement imaginable. Of specific interest to modelers are the small details, such as sabreattche insignia, shoulder insignia, epaulets, and shako badges. Each of these details is shown in color, with textual annotations, which speak to further detail, and dates of use.

Conclusion: This is a very concise, well written book detailing the French Hussar units, and would be an invaluable informational source for both war gamers and historical miniature painters.
