Every so often a book comes along that answers every question you may have about painting miniature figures. This book fits that description.

Foundry Miniatures from Nottingham, UK are manufacturers of 28mm wargame figures. Judging by the wonderful photos in this book, they are very detailed and cover a large number of eras. This guidebook written by Kevin Dallimore covers every aspect from preparing the figure to the completed miniature.

It begins by showing you in great detail how to clean the figures and what to do before painting them. It then proceeds to show you how to paint using the Foundry acrylic colors to produce a beautiful finished product.

Mr. Dallimore shows how to paint the figures by using the one step method, the two step method and the advanced three step method. He does this by showing the painting in stages that the beginning painter should have no trouble following.

In addition he shows how to paint using both a black undercoat and a white. There is a chapter on how to paint shield designs and use transfers. In the three color painting stages he shows how to use light and dark flesh tones and how to use metallics such as bronze and silver for chain mail.

One of the more interesting chapters is on basing. In it the author shows how to make the bases look realistic for the figure. There is also a chapter on how to convert figures to make them one of a kind.

In addition to figure painting there are chapters on painting vehicles and buildings.

Several guest painters show off their exquisite work in many of the chapters. The photography in this book is excellent. It shows each step clearly on how to produce an award winning miniature. I have found that the techniques shown in this book can be used in figures of any size, not just the 28mm wargamer scale.

A final chapter in this book is a reference showing the full range of Foundry Miniature colors and accessories.

Would I recommend this book? You bet!!! At a list price of $39.95, it's a book that should be on every miniatures' painter's shelf.
