Consisting of 320 pages and containing 32 black and white photographs and 19 illustrations, this book quickly throws you into the inception of the NEW CAVALRY. New that is for 1941. At the start of World War II the U.S. Cavalry were still the proud horse mounted units that helped found this country. Harry Yeide explains how we almost lost the Cavalry as a fighting force all together.

Along with the Cavalry losing their horses, they were given a large assortment of vehicles with which to carry out their impossible missions. Some rode, tanks, jeeps armored cars, rafts and even walked it out. So many stories and battle actions are recounted in this book; I was surprised that it was not longer. These new Cavalry troopers were present during the Operation Torch landings and the jungle fighting on Guadalcanal and into the actions in the Mediterranean, Europe and the Pacific.

The author states in his preface that this is the soul mate to two of his previous works. Steel Victory and The Tank Killers cover separate tank and tank destroyer battalions in Italy, North Africa, and the ETO. Mr. Yeide writes this book in a brutally fast paced clear concise manner. If you are into combat action books that are well written, then this is for you.
