New from Still Motions Photographics and Ray Bean is Volume Three in his “Super Carrier” series.  This time Ray covers the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67).  My CD came in a sturdy plastic jewel case.  All photos on this CD have never been published before, making them well worth having in any reference library.

The images are all JPEG files in sequential numerical order.  Also included is an index of all the images in numerical order to ease searching for a particular image.  Resolution on most photos is pretty good.  I zoomed in on several shots using Photoshop and most details can be made out.  I made print out of several images and they are quite useable on the work bench, so resolution isn’t a problem.

The photos included cover older shots to very recent.   I noticed this when I saw a Sea Ram in one of the sponsons so care must be taken to verify the timeframe of each image.  Seven photos on the CD are older halftones, but are still quite useable to the modeler for reference to flight deck markings.  The most notable feature of this CD is the extensive coverage of the island.  Every aspect of the Kennedy’s island from every angle is well covered.  Some air wing photos are included as well some good shots of the deck equipment.  The inclusion of several very nice stern photos is a definite plus.

Conclusions:

Although there are no models currently existing of the Kennedy, this CD is still worth having as a good “super carrier” reference source.  The lack of any hangar images is a downer, but the multitude of excellent exterior images more than makes up for that.  Lots of excellent close up images make this an excellent value for modelers or anyone building a “digital” reference library.

The CD retails for $20.95 (postage included) in the Continental US and slightly higher for overseas orders (email or write for exact overseas rate).
