Warship International

Volume 39, Number 4

Reviewed By Nat Richards, #13182

If you like ships, and particularly building models of warships of the steam era, you need to know about a publication called Warship International.  In the reviewers mind, this is the premier publication for information on the warships of the past 150 years.

Warship International is the quarterly publication of the International Naval Research Organization.  This quality publication usually runs 100 to 108 pages, though this particular issue is somewhat smaller (84 pages) as a result of a specific attempt to put the publication schedule back on time.

This issue features only one primary article (most issues feature two or three), the second installment of a series analyzing the loss of USS Arizona.  This installment focuses on a frame-by-frame analysis of the 16mm film that was shot as the Arizona exploded.

Regular features include highly informative letters from readers, often with unique photographs and personal experiences, Book Reviews, Naval News in Pictures, a Naval Intelligence feature that provides information on ship construction, deployments and ships removed from service (stricken or scrapped).

Perhaps one of the most useful features of each issue of WI is the Ask InfoSer, an information forum where members ask questions and other members throughout the globe provide detailed answers, drawings and photos.  Topics in this issue include:  Lifting Screws on Early Masted Steamships, Motor Torpedo Boats of the IJN, Final Soviet Aircraft Carrier Designs, Italian North African Convoys of WW II and many other interesting topics.

INRO also offers a service to purchase photographic prints and naval and maritime books at a discount.
