Over the last several years there has been a great need for up to the minute markings for today's combat aircraft in the operating theaters of Afghanistan and Iraq. Afterburner Decals have been producing what the modelers have been wanting. This sheet covers VAQ-133 and VAQ-142 operating from Bagram Airfield in 2006 and 2007. The decals are for the Monogram/Revell 1/48 EA-6B Prowler kits.
This sheet covers the following aircraft:
The decals come with large easy to read painting and marking guides for all the aircraft. The set includes a large sheet with the different squadron markings and common data and insignia. Slime lights are also included in the correct color. Two smaller sheets contain the airframe data and other markings for the ECM pods. A modeler's note indicates that the airframe data markings were not present on the two camouflaged planes and only on the line jets. The decals are very sharply printed and right on register. National markings and 'Navy' lettering are in different shades of gray to complement any of the schemes done. None of the decals are numbered so close attention needs to be paid to ensure correct application. The sheets are printed by Microscale so the quality is excellent, and the Microscale system of decal solvents is the only chemicals recommended by Afterburner.
- VAQ-142 Five tone Gay/Green camouflaged plane with War Pig nose art and shark mouth, Bagram Airfield November 2007
- VAQ-133 Three tone desert camouflaged plane, Bagram Airfield September 2007
- VAQ-142 Line Jet Three Tone Gray Scheme, Lion Head Squadron Markings
- VAQ-133 Line Jet Three Tone Gray Scheme
Overall this is an excellent set of markings for some very cool planes and very timely. Some eye catching and show stopping models are just screaming to be built with this sheet! My thanks to Scott and the men at Afterburner for such a great subject.
