MSRP: $17.99 Review item courtesy of Accurate Miniatures ( www.accurate-miniatures.com ) Accurate Miniatures is known for their high quality aircraft kits but here is something a little bit different, a diorama base. The Pierced Steel Planking (PSP) is printed on high quality SBS board which is then laminated on poly board, the same type of board that is used for presentations. According to the website it is then UV coated to keep the colors from fading. I can't verify that part but I can tell you that the PSP is very realistic looking. However it is flat with no vertical relief. That said I loved the look of the base. If you were to put down this much photo etch PSP the cost would be prohibitive, however, this way the modeler can get the look for much less than photo etch and with no work. The base is "worn" and provide a nice base for many types of models. It is sized for an Imex 2504/2514 Crystal Clear Display Case. Accurate Miniatures states that the display base can work for Accurate Miniatures P-51, F3F, Aircobra and even the B-25, but don't let that limit you there are plenty of others that will fit. How about Corsairs, Hellcats, and even B-26s? The versatility is only limited by your imagination. This type of base looks excellent in photographs and on display tables at contests. It is simple, easy to use and requires nothing more than a model to display on top of it. If you want to put it in the display case it will only add to the versatility. I like mine just the way it is as it is easy to transport and photograph. You'll see it under my models at contests. I think you will agree that it looks fabulous.
