MSRP: $47.00 USD If you are looking to add a higher level of detail to that new Trumpeter SBD-3/4 the Black Box Cockpit Set is now available. Jef Verswyvel of Black Box was gracious in supplying IPMS with this review sample while I was attending the National Convention in Kansas City. The kit cockpit is very nice, but the Black Box set adds those special little details such as wiring, oxygen hoses, hydraulic lines, etc. that the kit does not provide, thus allowing the modeler to take the level of detail one notch higher. This sample is beautifully cast with no pin holes or air bubbles whatsoever and the amount of detail is remarkable. Just the removal of some pour stubs and some light sanding is all that is needed to get going on this assembly. This set is a small kit in itself comprised of 36 pieces detailing the busy front and rear cockpits of the SBD Dauntless. It is designed to be used in combination with some of the kit provided parts.

The front and rear cockpit floor detail is very well done and features wiring and even the relief tube. The cockpit side wall details have been faithfully reproduced including the throttle quadrants, radio equipment, flare pouches, oxygen re-breathers/regulators and even the spool for the retractable long wire antenna. There are 7 casting blocks containing all of the small handles, control columns, trim wheels and rudder pedals. A very nice reproduction of the Mk III Mod IV telescope gun sight is provided.

Also included are the pilot and rear gunner seats complete with molded on harnesses. A set of instructions containing pictures and part placement references is included. The parts are neatly packaged in four separate bags to prevent breakage and packed in their typical sturdy box with Black Box logo. This set is consistent with Black Box's high level of detail and quality and is highly recommended. This set available at www.vmdstudios.com and other fine hobby shops everywhere.
