I just finished my Hasegawa B-24D before this review item arrived. You can read the review, and find out why I'm now doing a "turret nose" B-24D1 in my review of the Hasegawa B-24D, here.

The Quickboost resin parts didn't come in time for the Hasegawa build, but it turns out that that's OK. Very OK, in fact. Because there would be a pretty daunting problem installing the QB engines in the Hasegawa B-24.

The first picture is from the Hasegawa instructions. The second is Minicraft's and the third is QuickBoost's. The QB engines aren't going to fit into the Hasegawa nacelles as nicely as they will in the Minicraft nacelles. In fact it may be a lot of work, for little gain.

[review image] Additionally, the Hasegawa engines are very nice, much better than the Minicraft versions. The QuickBoost engines are as nice as, perhaps nicer than the Hasegawa engines. But unless you have a pretty high AMS rating (9.2 or above), you aren't going to see that much improvement for the $9+ you spend. Also, none of the engines have all of those "lumps" at the front of the engine. I think they're the magnetos, but I'm not perfectly sure there.

OK, that's over with. It's difficult to have to say less than nice things about someone's product in a review. So let's move on to the positive things.

I'm building a Minicraft B-24 with the nose turret. The aircraft is going to be Frenisi, which the WW2 vet down the street flew as copilot on several missions. And the Quickboost engines are just head and shoulders above the Minicraft offerings.

With QB, you get 2 banks of cylinders instead of just 1, there are cooling fins readily evident. The QB engines actually fit the nacelles better (tighter) than the OEM offerings, and seem to add a lot to the aircraft.

I painted up one of each of the QuickBoost and Minicraft engines. The Minicraft engines look OK. The Quickboost ones are better. They're the ones I'm going to use on this kit. There's going to be a challenge drilling the holes for the propellers, but other than that, the QB engines fit better and look better. Isn't that what you want and need in an aftermarket product?
