I just finished my Hasegawa B-24D before this review item arrived. You can read the review, and find out why I'm now doing a "turret nose" B-24D1 in my review of the Hasegawa B-24D, here.

But that doesn't mean I can't do the comparison between the barrels on the Hasegawa "kit supplied" guns and the Quickboost items. That's because Hasegawa has supplied the B-24D kit with the "extra" solid and clear parts for a nose turret and ball turret. I'm sure that's because Hasegawa already has a B-24J planned, and they didn't want to design 2 clear sprues when one will do splendidly.

Quickboost supplies 9 gun barrels in the package. This is enough for a B-24D. The barrels are resin, nicely molded with no flash and bubble free. As you can see in this picture, they actually have holes in the muzzle end of the barrel. Splendid.

The Hasegawa guns are also nicely molded, and flash free. This may change as the mold wears, but right now they're really state-of-the-art for 1/72. They're a long stride from the simple cylinders attached to a firing mechanism we got just a few years ago. The cooling holes are visible in the sides, top and bottom of the barrels.

I assembled the extra turret from the Hasegawa kit, using the Quickboost barrel for one gun, and the Hasegawa barrel on the other.

OK, this is about as close to a fair comparison as I can make. There is a definite difference in the depth and clarity of the detail on the Quickboost gun. And the QB barrel has a hole in the muzzle, not just a blank spot. Before you peek at the last picture, you may want to choose which one is better, in your opinion.

Overall, the Hasegawa OEM guns are very good. The Quickboost barrels are better. If your AMS demands the best possible, then the Quickboost barrels may be your best choice. If you're building for a contest, then the Quickboost barrels may very well add that small difference between a Gold and no trophy.
