Canadian Leopard C1 (Early) Conversion
1/35 Trackjam/Maple Leaf Models

I was rather hesitant about getting this kit as I was going to need the Italieri Leopard 1A4 kit number 224.  These are currently out of production and I only had my one.  Thanks to EBAY, I have another on the way and was ready to tackle this project.

The kit comes packaged in a white cardboard box with a color photo of the completed and unpainted kit on the cover.  The model shows a turned metal barrel and the box cautions that the barrel is not included.

What is included is: 20 nicely detailed resin pieces, one piece of brass wire (for handles), one decal sheet (Quartermaster’s depot), a five page instruction sheet, a decal placement/information sheet, and an erratum sheet.

The turret is a beautifully detailed hollow casting and is EXTREMELY delicate.  YOU MUST BE CAREFUL REMOVING THE POURING LUGS FROM THE PART.  Look at the erratum sheet.  You need to thin the anti skid panel to 4mm and move the TVV cable port because these pieces will be covered by the mantlet cover if you do not.

The six page instruction sheet is well detailed and very informative.  Verlinden could definitely learn something from these guys.  My only fault is that there are no drawings or good photos of the NATO three tone camouflage scheme that was applied to these vehicles in the late 1980’s.  Hopefully, I will be able to find drawings of this scheme in some of my other leopard kits.

The decal sheet is quite impressive.  You can make at least six different vehicles from the Royal Canadian Dragoons and at least one gunnery school vehicle.

This is a super kit and if you are into Canadian armor, this one is a definite buy.  Also, check out TrackJam Models and Maple Leaf Models on the Internet for other great Canadian kits, conversions, and accessories.
