1/35 Resin German Helmet Set

kit number 35505

Reviewed By Michael Scott, #43177

This detail resin kit is composed of two resin blocks of fourteen helmets each, seven Wermacht Stahlhelme 43, and seven Fallschirmspringerhelme. The only documentation provided is one sheet with a line drawing of each helmet and painting instructions for each. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to determine what part of the helmet should be painted what color, except for the interior cushioning and frame. The exterior painting instructions all point to a dot on the helmet side. It would appear from the instructions that you should paint this dot white, green, gray and dark yellow. Some independent research is called for.

The helmets are connected to the pour block by relatively thick stubs of resin. These are easily removed with a scalpel, leaving a little thick stub. I carved this down with the scalpel and finished with sanding. Each helmet, and the associated strap on the Stahlhelme, display a seam line that must be removed. Again, the scalpel worked best for this, but care must be taken in both these operations in order not to either chip off a chunk of strap, or break off the visor-like projection on the Stahlhelme by holding the helmet too firmly while scraping and sanding. The Stahlhelme are cast with a thin, very nicely done ‘rim’. You must be careful with this when finishing the helmet as it is easy to chip or break off.

These issues aside, the helmets are all finely cast and display accurate shape, strapping and interior detail. Recommended.
