This offering from PJ
Productions of Belgium consists of a single resin sprue with two different
positions of seated pilot figures. The overall molding is fair, with
minor wisps of resin at the seam lines, this is very easy to clean up with
a light reverse scrape of a hobby blade. The detail level of the
lower torsos is low with the upper torso fair to good. The flight
suits are typical Russian two-piece affairs with little detail, (no
pockets, flotation or survival vests, or speed jeans). However the
seat straps are raised and shaped as to attach to the seat, a nice detail.
Only one figure has an oxygen mask, and it is a side hose style mount as
seen in some photos of Russian flight gear.
The real gem of this
offering is in the molding of the helmets. They are very well done,
and of two different styles. Style 1 is the early type with the
visor on the outside with Style 2 being of the more modern enclosed type,
this is also the figure with the oxygen mask. Figure 1 also has his
head turned, a nice touch. The only real complaint with the figures
would be that the pose is a typical harness holder; a separate arm to
position on the stick would have been nice.
With most kit included
figures or those available over the counter being based on NATO-style
flight gear these guys would be perfect for that special MiG 21 or Su 22.
The portion of the figures that would be visible through most canopy's is
very well done and gives a very Russian impression, a must have for you
