All right already, the kit has a diecast body and I know the hardcore builders are rolling over in their graves. Take heart, this kit has something for everyone. The kit is not the batmobile everyone is used to from the 1960’s TV show (Powww, Blam! etc. ; it is a replica of the comic book version from the 1950’s. The body and tail fin of the car are metal and are pre-painted black with chrome parts. These are attached to one another with screws.

The remainder of the parts are just like a curbside kit with a full interior including seats, dashboard, shift levers and sidewalls. Of course, being the Batmobile, it also includes a chemistry lab with a beaker, test tubes, ruler and microscope to help analyze the clues from all the bad guys. The bottom of the car has exhausts and a beefy suspension system that is held onto the body pan by screws. The front wheels are snapped in place and move in tandem when complete. The tires are rubber with chrome rim and are held in place by a retainer that snaps onto spindles on the suspension. The car is meant to be played with once complete.

The interior is where you can get creative. There are painting instructions for the interior called out in nice generic terms like steel and flat black. I assembled most of the 28 parts and didn’t sand a thing. I used Alclad steel and chrome for the metal interior parts and used Tamiya transparent colors to coat the test tubes and beakers about half way up each one so they looked like they contained liquids. There is a nice picture of the dashboard dials and I used a fine brush to detail those. Once the paint dried, I super glued the parts together and screwed the interior to the metal body. I added the chassis to the body with screws also. A coat of wax and the Batmobile was ready for action.

This is a great kit. If you want a fun and quick project for you and the kids, this fills the bill perfectly. The kit is very reasonably priced (about $18) and can be put together quickly and then played with once done. Detailers could have a field day on the interior that shows through the huge glass windshield. I really recommend this kit and hope Polar Lights keeps on making more great affordable kits.
