Hang on to your undies fellow modelers, here we go .... This was a real cool half day build .... no kidding. As a fan of the original Battlestar Galactica TV Show that hit the airwaves in the mid seventies, I was always fascinated by the kits that soon came out during the Show's run. They included this project, the Cylon Raider, Colonial Viper and Battlestar Galactica. Uncle Dave sent this my way after I jumped back in the Reviewer Corp. THANKS DAVE!!!!! This is advertised as including new parts, but I never had the older kit .... so I'm not up to date on what was and what is now :) A few years back this kit would command around one hundred smackers on the collectors market.

The kit does not have that many parts and is very BIG. This explains why it didn't take that much time to build. However, the fit was very good and there were no problems at all. There are four shell (pie plate) type pieces to the main hull. These are joined by a tubular cylinder to give the kit it's cool shape. On doing the research from one of the many web sites, the "real" deal would play host to Three Hundred Cylon Raiders. Now, I'm not that smart .... but after learning that this was a "Hades" Class Base Star, it finally made sense to me that the villain that commanded the ship was aptly named, "Lucifer". Go figure. It only took me 30 plus years to figure that out.

I started the paint scheme with an overall coat of flat black. This is the same method I use for my armor. I then used three shades of gray going from dark to light. The last shade used as a highlighter to really give the kit some depth. I decided to enhance some of the Raider take off/landing bays by adding some plastic strip stock. This was also a good way to get out of sanding some seams .... hey, I'm a modeler .... create!!!! These extra bits were painted yellow/red and white/green. Several other small ports and area's were also picked out to give the model some color. Just because the Cylons were machines didn't mean they were not color coordinated. I finished the project over the next day by giving it a few dark brown oil washes to really set it off. The base is a part of a tree that fell from Mars .... at least that's what I told the guys from IPMS/SPASAM .... they bought into it. The stick is brass rod left over from .... well, I can't tell you that. I had a ball doing this and I'm sure you'll have fun too .... just watch the brass rod!!!

Thanks to REVELL for the sample!!!!! HAVE FUN .... build something!!!!
