Decals for helicopter kits are hard to come by so when they come out, you had better take notice if you build them. Originally released in 2004, this updated sheet from Twobobs features markings for 6 AH-1Ws in a variety of colors used during Operation Desert Storm, and in more recent operations in Afghanistan.

[review image] The decals are contained on three "normal" sized decal sheets with a special sheet containing a beautiful woman nose art. The aircraft are really nice and range from two tone tans to the normal grays. The markings are quite colorful and figuring prominently on the sheet are the large snake emblems and a variety of shark mouths. I love shark mouths, especially on Cobras. There are enough stencils to do two aircraft. Kill markings are included for the Desert Storm aircraft and the instructions indicate how many of which kind of markings were applied to each aircraft. Also included are separate number decals which will allow you to do up to nine more aircraft.

The decals are printed by Microscale so they will react well with their setting solutions. All the decals are in perfect register, thin and opaque. Typical Microscale quality.

The instructions are printed on two-sided full color high quality paper. The background on the front is the TSU and on the back is a close up of one of the snake markings. The front contains ten really nice photos of the actual aircraft. They are small but still quite useable, especially for weathering. I will say this, the instructions are printed with very small lettering making it is difficult to read for someone as blind as me, but read it as it contains some great information. The color callout is invaluable and cross references Testor's, Humbrol, Gunze Sangyo, and Xtracrylics paints.

Some of the Whiskeys on the sheet will require the original boxing and some will need either the Cobra Company NTS upgrade for the original release of the MRC/Academy or the new NTS boxing of the AH-1W.

Beautiful and colorful markings for multiple aircraft, perfectly printed, and shark mouths; what more could you ask for in a decal?

Highly recommended. Thanks to Twobobs for the review copy. You can obtain your copy of the sheet by visiting their website at www.twobobs.net.
