Two Mikes Resin is a new company, set up by Mike Reeves and Mike Williams, of Britmodeler fame. Their aim is to provide quality resin corrections at reasonable prices for subjects, both American and European, that are not regularly covered - the ESCI/Airfix 1/48 SAAB Viggen is a fine example of a less common kit that has received the Two Mikes treatment. To that end, they have teamed up to produce a set of corrected intakes for the Airfix 1/48 Hawk kit.

The issues with the Airfix kit items, and this applies to both their Hawk T.1 and 100-series kits, is that the intake openings are too small and incorrectly contoured. In addition, the fact that they are two-piece castings makes for some awkward seam line clean up. The Two Mikes' intakes are cleanly molded in one piece, and are much more accurate in shape and size. The new resin piece fits precisely where the Airfix parts are meant to go, leaving minimal clean up to achieve a fine result. One minor issue is that the amount of resin between the part and the pour stub is a little narrow, leaving little margin for error when removing the part from the stub - care will be needed with the razor saw. But this is a trivial point. As can be seen from my photo, the difference between the kit parts and these resin corrections is eye-opening, and I can thoroughly recommend this set.

My thanks to Mike Reeves at Two Mikes Resin for the review samples. Two Mikes Resin products are available directly from the 2 Mikes website, or from Hannants in the UK.
