One of the faults with the Mach 2 1/72 Vickers Valiant kit is that the intakes are not correctly shaped, and indeed, appear to be differently shaped on either side….While it is possible to correct them, it would take a fair amount of work, which is where this set comes in handy.

TwoMikes have built a reputation for creating accessories for kits that are not run of the mill, and this is no exception. Each pair of intakes is molded in white resin, which will greatly aid in painting, and will require the donor kit to have a section cut from each fuselage and wing. The resin is cleanly molded, with just a couple of small pinholes in my sample. Cutting of the pour stubs form the rear of the intakes will allow the modeller to add an engine face if desired.

[review image] As can be seen from the accompanying photos of the real Valiant, housed at RAF Museum, Cosford, the shape of the lips is pretty complex, and TwoMikes have done a pretty good job of capturing that. The only omission I find is that the air flow diverters in each outer intake trunk are missing; these would have been next to impossible to mold in place, but the instructions do not mention them at all unfortunately. These will be easily added with some thin plasticard, a task that will not be beyond any modeller tackling the Mach 2 kit; once again, the accompanying photos show these clearly.

Overall, I feel this is an essential accessory for anyone who takes on the Mach 2 kit, and indeed, for anyone (like me) who has the old Contrail vacform. Recommended.

TwoMikes Resin products are available directly from their website. My thanks to Mike for the review sample.
