In my estimation the Ki-61 Tony is one of the most beautiful fighters ever built. I have several in my collection in all scales. I have the Hasegawa 1/32 one which this detail set is designed for and the old Revell 1/32 which is a very fine kit considering its age. I wasn't really happy with the cockpit that came with the Revell kit and was thrilled that John Noack could give me the Aires detail set.

This detail set is as complete as one could want with 21 resin parts, one clear film part for the instruments and 34 photo etched parts. The resin parts are attached to some substantial blocks. The parts do not require a lot of cleanup and are beautifully cast. The parts are clearly numbered and do not cause any confusion as to which one is which.

The only problem I could see is that the instructions could have given the colors that the pieces should be painted. This could have eliminated a lot of research for the correct colors. I had to resort to the internet to go to a few sites to get to proper scheme. As was thought, the cockpit is not in the usual metallic blue/green but a tan/sand color.

Would I recommend this detail set? You bet!! Even in spite of not listing the colors I feel that this is a must if you want to build a Hasegawa Ki-61. Now, I just hope it fits in the Revell Tony. Thanks to Aires and John Noack for giving me this fine kit to review.
