Eduard makes so many aftermarket items for our business that it is so hard to keep track of what they already have and impossible to guess what they will come up with next. In the aircraft photo etch division they just seem to crank out new stuff every week. This time Eduard has come up with a set of landing flaps for the 1/48 A6M3 Type 32 Hasegawa kit. Since most Japanese aircraft were relatively small, 1/48 P.E. parts are pretty small and fragile. These landing flaps are quite easy to build and fit perfectly. Some cutting of the original plastic flaps has to be done, but if you are the worrisome type… no problem! These are quite easy cuts. As with any cutting, measure twice, cut once, but be absolutely sure where the cut needs to be made. I suggest placing the built part over the area to be cut. This will confirm where the cutting lines are to be drawn. I would suggest that these cuts are made a little narrower than your measurement so that with a little massaging the Eduard part will fit perfectly. You don't want to start adding putty to a gap created by an improper measurement when you don't need to.

I haven't, as of this writing, completely finished building the A6M3 kit, but just by looking at the installed flaps, I know it will look fantastic. I can see already, by way of a dry fit, how these flaps will enhance the look of this aircraft. Since I can be very dangerous with parts that are glued on delicately, I will paint the opened bottom flap along with the rest of the aircraft but I will install it as one of the last items.

I highly recommend these landing flaps to all; even beginners. They are relatively easy to install and a great way to learn if it's your first time using photo etch. I haven't checked but I would bet they would fit on another A6M3 Type 32 from a different company. Please note, however, that different "Types" had different flap designs.

I would like to thank Eduard for their kit to review and IPMS for allowing me to review this kit.
