With the release of the new 1/48 F-105 Thunderchief from Hobby Boss, Quickboost has released a couple of very nice detail sets to go with it.

The first detail set contains a pair of wing tips molded in clear green and clear red. These are replacement tips for the kit wings that, once masked and painted, provide clear colored position lights for the Thus. The moldings are very crisp and well detailed with recessed lines and engraved rivets. The parts were clear and free of bubbles or defects, and had a minimal pour stub located where the resin parts would meet the kit parts. Although designed for the Hobby Boss kit, the parts do match up in dimensions to the old Monogram kit. However using the detail set on the Monogram Thud would require complete re-scribing of all the kit panel lines, or removal of the lines and filling of the resin part's lines and rivets. Having a monogram Thud in my stockpile, I plan on using this set on it. I just need to figure out how much work I really want to do.

The second detail set released by Quickboost replaces the Hobby Boss kit's refueling probe. The set includes a new probe bay and probe. The set is very well done, and more closely matched the dimensions and details of the actual probe. The instructions show the general location, but doesn't give much more. As with the above set, this one is designed for the HB kit, however with a little work, it could be added to the Monogram kit, which is what I plan on doing.

Both sets are fairly inexpensive, and make great additions to either 1/48 Thud. I highly recommend them to anyone building these kits. They are very easy to use, with very little work required. My thanks to Quickboost for supplying the review sample and to IPMS for allowing me the opportunity to review it. Happy Modeling!!
