The Conversion Part

Usually Quickboost provides upgrade parts for various kits on the market to improve their accuracy. In this case, however, they have provided conversion parts. The conversion parts arrive in a clear plastic envelope which includes a foldout sheet of paper and a stiff paper stock backer. The foldout sheet includes a line image of the replacement part as well as a note "recommended kit: Tamiya".

There are no instructions provided or required to replace the kit parts. The kit cowlings are molded as top, left and right engine covers. This replaces the original Tamiya parts.

The Quickboost upper cowling is cast with a casting block that must be carefully removed from the rear of the part. The ‘left' and ‘right' cowling pieces need to be carefully hollowed out where the exhaust outlets would be.

Research

The recommended Tamiya kit is superb, but is the German built version. These conversion parts will correctly and accurately convert the kit into a Czechoslovakian built Fi-156 Storch (‘K-65' denomination built in Czech).

It's also important to get the right color scheme that was used for the Czech built K-65. ‘Avalon decals' makes the decals for this, including various plans for interesting color schemes for this version. Their website is www.avalon-decals.eu.

Schiffer Publications has a very good book on this aircraft: Fieseler Fi-156 Storch.

Conclusion

This set is highly recommended if you want something to improve the kit and make it a little different. Thanks to Quickboost and IPMS for the opportunity to review this fine conversion part.
