Quickboost has released a set of cast resin replacement cannon barrels for the Hasegawa 1/48 Typhoon Mk.1B kit. I plan on incorporating these beautiful little gems in a Canadian late-war Typhoon with a rare shark-mouth marking on the nose of the aircraft. The decals are not quite ready, so I have compared them to both the Hasegawa kit barrels and my nearly completed Monogram tiffie that I am building as a warm-up.

[review image] As you can see, the parts are a direct replacement for the Hasegawa kit barrels, but they could be used almost as easily on the Monogram kit, as well. A bit of surgery would be necessary, as the Monogram kit is engineered with the barrels cast as upper and lower halves with the wings. What complicates it just a bit is that the upper wing portion of the barrel is completely round for the forward half of the barrel on the Monogram offering. A little forethought and measuring, along with a clean severance of the kit barrel at the correct location should produce equally good results.

[review image] According to my photo references, the Quickboost barrels appear to have a more accurate taper to the front half of the barrel, and the muzzle opening is nicely bored, eliminating the need to drill out the kit parts from either manufacturer. Not a difficult task to do on the kit part, but centering the drill bit in the end of that tiny barrel can be a challenge. Using the Quickboost barrels will solve the centering challenge, and provide a more accurate barrel shape.
I am all for accuracy and ease of construction, so these little shooters are highly recommended. Quickboost produces a variety of similar replacement parts, engines, seats, etc. for various scales and types at reasonable prices. Check them out at www.quickboost.net. Thanks to Quickboost for the review samples.
