If you've ever attended a major modeling show and wished you could take home a finely printed color volume with articles and photography of the best armor models you might find AFV Modeller a good substitute. I've attended several model shows where vendor tables display past issues of AFV Modeller in plastic sleeves. These books represent some of the best reference materials out there. [review image]

AFV Modeller Issue 36 is no exception. If you collect armor kits and are looking for some inspiration for your next project you might find it in this, or past issues. In issue 36 you get historical photography of Korean War Centurions and the accompanying build photos of the AFV Centurion kit. Build photos in AFV Modeller usually show the completed model resplendent in photoetch and other add-ons but prior to painting and finishing. I find this approach more valuable than other armor publications that present numerous photos with tight close up views of the add-on details. The complete view of the unfinished model gives you a better feel for how much the investment in add on detail will help the overall composition.

The feature story in this issue is for fans of towed ordinance and features AFV Club's 8" howitzer towed by the M4 High Speed Tractor.

Diorama fans will find excellent photography of a street scene of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution with DML"s SU-152 and T-34. Another diorama gives fans for DML's 88 Flak 37 a straight forward setting for a captured weapon. If you have the Tamiya LeClerc French MBT this issue includes photos of the LeClerc as it was deployed in the white UN livery during deployment as a peace keeper in Southern Lebanon.

AFV Modeller puts the emphasis on finishing so there are far more photos of the finished product than step by step how to's common in other publications. My main concern with this publication is that it is based in the UK with high the subscription rates but it is very well done and photographed.

My thanks to AFV Modeller and IPMS USA for the review sample.
