The DVD
The DVD Table of Contents contains seven “chapters”, each “chapter covering a specific modeling technique. The techniques featured are “weathering metal tracks with Blacken-It”, cutting tubing, application of Zimmerit, bending photo-etch parts, creating realistic antennas, and using and sculpting epoxy putty into bed rolls. All topics are covered in the same manner, a narration of the technique being shown, video of the technique in progress and on actual model parts, and with related tools being displayed within the camera’s field of vision. The viewer gets to see the technique in action, hear a description coupled with that action, and is shown what tools might be necessary or handy for that particular technique. Viewing time for the entire DVD is about 60 minutes.

The subjects that are covered in this product are geared for the modeler who has experience building models at a basic level, and who wishes to tackle these particular techniques to improve their modeling ability. The video, accompanied by the narration are sufficient to this task and the modeler will be able to quickly and easily master these techniques.

Pro
The Title page for the DVD has two features, one of which is labeled “Gallery”. By clicking on this button one can view still images of the models used in the making of the DVD, giving one a sense of what the finished project can look like. The quality of DVD is very good, with the lighting and audio at proper levels. The techniques shown are geared toward the armor modeler but are easily adapted to other types of modeling.

Con
The only nit to be picked for this product is that, from time to time, the narrator’s hands obscure the part being worked on. This happens only infrequently and does not cause the viewer to miss out on any important scene or technique.

Recommendation
This DVD is recommended for modelers who are ready to move beyond the basics and are ready to learn the specific techniques contained in this product.
