Onslaught: The German Invasion of Soviet Russia is the latest in the "Firefly Collection", a series of books from The Oliver Publishing Group of Australia. Printed on good quality 8.5" x11" paper, this 34-page title covers the German Army's advance into Russia as part of Operation Barbarossa. While not so much a vehicle reference per say, the pictures do offer a great study of the German Army on the move, from the soldiers perspective. Many of the pictures appear to be taken from personal collections, and many are taken from the soldiers' perspective. Although the book is rather short compared to other similar offerings from publishers like Concord but offers a great selection of pictures many of which seemed new.

The A4 type layout provides typically three pictures per page. The photo's have a good variety of German soldiers at rest and on the march, as well as a host of soft skin vehicles, half-tracks, artillery, and a few assorted AFV's. The inside jacket has black and white illustrations of all the German Divisions insignia participating in Barbarossa, while the back cover offers an excellent painting reference in the form of some beautiful color plates of Stug III's and Panzer III's, but only one page.

Modelers can expect to take away some great weathering and diorama possibilities from the pages. The only disappointment with the book is that there are not more color plates.

Many Thanks to Firefly and IPMS USA for the review sample. Recommended
