Introduction

This review represents two firsts for me: my first review for the IPMS/USA Review Corps, and my first ever military kit of any kind. I must admit that for me, this was out of my comfort zone. I'm an automotive modeler to the core. But I must say that I am impressed with this kit.

The Kit

The packaging--the kit box is about 7-1/2" wide by 11" long, and is 2" deep. Sprues and packaging--every tree is enclosed in sealed, clear plastic bags. The plastic is a grey color, and there are over 190 parts, with noted in the instructions as not being used in this kit's construction. This kit also has a nice photo-etch fret. Molding appears to be crisp, with many parts showing good detail.

Instruction--The instructions are 4 pages in all. The first page is the contents of the kit, 2nd page is the color chart and the first steps of this build. The third page is more building and the painting and markings for the crew. The last page is the final build and more color reference for the 8.8cm Raketenwerfer 43 "Puppchen". The instruction pages address the assemblies showing the work in clear diagrams. My initial reaction is that the steps are clear and should be quite easy to follow.

Starting the build.

The first step is to carefully study the instructions and the sprues. The parts are identified by sprue letter, Always dry-fit the parts before applying the solvent. The removal of the very small parts was a challenge for me, and much care was required not to lose them. Clean up of the mating surfaces is critical for a good fit. Clean up of the very small parts was especially difficult for me, but I used masking tape to hold the parts while the parts were cleaned up.

The assembly went rather quickly. The crew portion of this build was also a first for me. But I must say that things went together quite well. I am pleased with the outcome of the crew.

Painting

I used Tamiya acrylic paints throughout. I attempted to give this build an out in the field look. Kind of a worn, dirty well used look.

Conclusion

With over 190 parts involved in the effort. The finished model is really quite small.. The actual build was at times challenging for me (being a non military guy), but rewarding.

I highly recommend this kit. I'd like to thank Dragon Models and IPMS for providing me with the opportunity to review this kit.
