My name is Dave and I am tool-a-holic. When something comes out, I somehow feel the need to try it and see if it improves my modeling. Xuron is a very well know name to modelers as producers of some of the first dedicated sprue cutters. As most modelers have progressed in skills and desires, one of the first thing we learn is clip the sprues rather than bending or tearing like we did as kids. People started this with nail clippers, wire cutters and the like and Xuron came out with what most modelers have had or still do have, the short nosed sprue nippers. I still have at least two. These worked well but as model molding technology advanced, the parts got fiddlier, the old nippers had trouble getting close enough and clean enough to cut the parts without breaking.

The Xuron 2175ET Professional Sprue Cutter solves these issues. I have used the smaller cutters that look like large tweezers for a while so when Gerald Voigt (IPMS Reviewer and Hawkeye Hobby owner) contacted me to see if we were interested in a review, I said to bring it on.

This model is similar to the old black handled cutters that mean longer grips and plastic covers for comfort. Excellent. The major difference is in the cutting parts. There are extended sharper points to allow you to get to that smallest part and they are also razor sharp. I included a picture as comparison. By having the longer padded handles, you also have the advantage of extra leverage versus other sets and that means a quicker, sharper cut with less force and less launching of parts. I tried the cutters on one of the Eduard Bf110's I am building for review and they work great even on the smallest part.

These are now my new standard for sprue cutters. Go get one; you won't regret it. My thanks to Gerald and Xuron for turning me on to this great tool. Recommended!
